Class 2 / Class 4 Driver – In‑Town Litter Bin Collection

We are seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Driver Operator to join our Solid Waste team in Invercargill. This role is focused on the collection and servicing of in‑town litter bins, helping keep our streets and public spaces clean and presentable.

About the Role

Reporting to the Solid Waste Supervisor, you will operate designated in‑town routes, servicing public litter bins in a safe and efficient manner. This is a hands‑on, physically active role with consistent early-start hours: Monday to Friday, 5:00am to 1:30pm, with Saturday work from 5:00am to 9:00am. You’ll be out and about in the community each day, interacting with the public and representing a team that takes pride in what they do.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate Class 2 / Class 4 vehicles on in‑town routes
  • Service and empty public litter bins efficiently and safely
  • Complete daily vehicle pre‑start checks and logbook entries
  • Follow scheduled routes and instructions from Dispatch
  • Accurately complete daily paperwork
  • Report hazards, incidents, or vehicle defects promptly
  • Maintain positive interactions with the public
  • Participate in toolbox meetings and safety initiatives
  • Contribute to a strong safety-first culture

What You’ll Bring

  • Minimum Class 2 licence required (Class 4 preferred)
  • Full NZ driver licence
  • Previous driving, waste, or service-based experience (preferred)
  • Physically fit and comfortable with repetitive manual handling
  • Strong commitment to health, safety, and wellbeing
  • Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to work
